Student Mortality Table Analysis Project Activity Using BPS Data from Palangka Raya City

The Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Palangka Raya University, in collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Palangka Raya City, carried out project assignment activities in the Risk Management and Insurance course with the topic "Compilation and Analysis of Mortality Tables Based on Official BPS Data".

This activity aims to provide students with hands-on experience utilizing official BPS data for mortality analysis, which forms the basis for calculating life insurance risk. Through this project, students construct empirical mortality tables based on BPS data, then construct theoretical mortality tables using the exponential mortality law, Gompertz, and Makeham. The results of both approaches are compared using error rate analysis using R software.

This activity helps students understand mortality and actuarial concepts more deeply, while also practicing data analysis and statistical modeling skills in the context of insurance risk management. Furthermore, this activity also demonstrates a concrete collaboration between the Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Palangka Raya, and the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of Palangka Raya City in supporting the achievement of Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 6, namely the implementation of higher education collaboration with external partners in the fields of education and teaching.
